Proporta Mizu Shell Silicone iPad Case Review

I’ve taken a look at the Maya II iPad case from Proporta and, whilst I haven’t yet got my hands on an iPad, found it to be well padded, well made, and an attractive companion to the matching iPhone case. But what if you’re not a fan of slip cases, and want all-round, permanent protection for your iPad?

The Mizu shell from Proporta is a thick silicone case with a gloss finish that’ll provide both scratch/dent protection to the back of your iPad, plus a better sense of grip if you’re a little nervous that the sleek aluminium beauty might slip out of your hands.

One of the first things I thought when seeing the Maya II case and Mizu shell together was that they’d make a great pair, a silicone case for ongoing protection and grip, plus a slip case for good looks, protection within a bag and the all important protection of the iPad’s screen. Alas the Mizu shell does not fit into the Maya II case, which is far too tight and form fitting to the iPad to admit the extra millimetres of silicone added by the Mizu shell.

This really means that the silicone case is only useful for coffee table and around-the-house (or office) iPads, where you’re not transporting it from A to B, but want good protection for setting down on surfaces and leaving around the house. You can, at a pinch, stick a screen protector on your iPad and trust it within a well padded and softly lined pocket of a messenger or compact laptop bag, if you’re dead set on carrying it around in this silicone shell.

There’s little else to say about the Mizu shell. It’ll uglify your iPad but will provide a sleek, non-invasive layer of permanent protection that slip cases simply cannot offer and flip cases don’t quite get right. If you’re into silicone cases it’s good enough, but is a little uninspired on the design front for its £24.95 price (or £27.95 bundled with a screen protector).
