Novation XioSynth Controller and Synthesizer Review

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Joining our ranks of Novation products is the XioSynth Controller and Synthesizer which is a mixed bag that might appeal to some and turn off others with its incredibly compact and good looking silver/grey finished body with rounded edges for an appealing but not necessarily very robust aesthetic that seems more suited to the studio than the stage.

Korg Kontrol 61 First Impressions

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

The Korg Kontrol 61 has made it into the Gadgetoid studio for a once over and is an impressively different control surface that’s, unlike any I have used before. In short it’s built like a brick shi… err outhouse.

Novation Remote 61SL

Monday, March 10th, 2008

It’s not often you find a product changing the way you work, normally you pick something you expect to fit in with your workflow and go with it. Being a journalist I end up trying products I would not normally consider for purchase and just occasionally I find them becoming irreplaceable.

The Novation Remote 61SL is one such product. As an owner of a Roland Fantom X8 I was heading down the road of live audio recording from hardware synthesizers, but this posed two problems that I did not fully recognise until getting my hands upon the Novation Remote 61SL

Korg MicroKORG Synthesizer

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

The Korg MicroKORG is an impressive, ultra-portable and robust
synthesizer which makes up for its diminuiative size and somewhat
controversial half-sized keyboard in droves with powerful synthesizing
features including a vocoder, arpeggiator, effects and 128 genre-grouped
pre-programmed patches to get you inspired and playing music out of the box.

Introducing the Roland Fantom X8

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

This is the first of a series of articles covering Roland’s flagship synthesizer workstation the Fantom X series (which includes the X6, X7 and X8 in addition to a rack-mountable version of the synth). In particular I will be referring to the behemoth cream of the Fantom crop; the X8.

Sennheiser HD215 Headphones Review

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

We took a look at the Sennheiser HD215 closed-back headphones back in June, without further ado here’s what we thought.

The Sennheiser HD215 headphones are fantastic DJ, home-studio or music listening headphones at an even more fantastic budget price. As is typical of these kinds of headphone the HD215 cans are large, cushioned and comfortable, connected by a cushioned headband and a pleasure to wear during extended periods of listening, even along with glasses without them being dug into your face and ears.

Roland Juno-D Review

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

My first love in the world of keyboards is my Roland Fatom X8; I’ve not given it any of the Gadgetoid limelight, however, because it is a decidedly expensive niche product. The 61-key Juno-D on the other hand is what I would consider to be affordable and is a great little synth and good all-round stage keyboard that will not break the bank. Not only that but the Juno-D looks fantastic, all black with a tasteful brushed metal finish and a very refined and clean appearance that puts the similarly priced and specified Yamaha MM6 to shame.
