Roberts Robi DAB Radio For Your iPod Or iPhone

Not long after my attention was drawn to the Roberts Radio Robi by a forum post asking about iPhone compatible DAB tuners a review sample has turned up.

I popped open the non-welded clamshell packaging of the Robi, unfurled its lengthy cable, hooked it up to my iPhone, said “no” to the annoying dialogue about incompatible accessories and airplane mode and waited for the Robi to tune in.

After finding every available DAB station I was aware of in my area, the Robi immediately started playing the first one. It took a little tinkering to lay out the lengthy cable in such a way that the single was listenable, but once done I am nothing but astounded at how well this tiny little, shirt clip-able DAB tuner picks up stations… indoors in an office, no less!

The Robi is compact and attractive. It boasts a hold button to prevent accidental volume/station changes, boasts an FM tuner in addition to the DAB tuner, and even works as an in-line remote for your MP3s with volume, play/pause and back/next controls. In the “neat feature” department it even has a favourites button which you can press and hold to flag a station as a favourite. Brilliant!

You can currently enter a competition at Roberts to win a Robi, I would highly recommend doing so if you’re an iPod equipped radio lover.

I’ll be back with a full review after I’ve tried the Robi on the go. Stay tuned!

Some might be interested, also, to know that we now have a Roberts MP53 in-house and ready to be given the Gadgetoid-once-over. We’ve received a lot of visits to the MP43 review, which found it to be an exceptionally good and compact little audio unit, will the MP53 be better or worse? Find out soon!
