Acer Aspire One Priced And Dated

Acer Aspire One Open

Now that it’s priced and slated for the 25th of this very month I have yet to find a better deal for the Acer Aspire One that that at Play.com where the very tasty and tempting 120GB version with 1gb RAM and Linpus Linux Lite installed clocks in at £249.99 delivered.

Alas the starting price for the Aspire One is a touch above the touted £199.99 coming in instead at £229.99; however this is still a hefty drop from some of the competition who seem eager to push the Netbook prices up to the £300 mark and beyond. That said, a fully specced Windows XP version of the Aspire One hits £299.99; a whole £50 more than the same configuration loaded up with Linux… no thanks. With an OEM edition of XP Home coming in at not much more than £50 it might be a better option for the tech savvy to opt for some linux goodness and then set up a dual boot (or perhaps even a virtual machine) with Windows XP if they need it.

If you’re eager for your Acer Aspire One fix then you can pre-order now at Play.com, given that this little beauty has the looks, the specifications and the price going for it I can’t say that I’m not tempted myself.

There’s no word yet from any early obtainers of the Aspire One whether or not it’ll take Ubuntu Linux without a fight or if it’s even worth trying.
